Dear Alice Hoffman, I don't know if you will read this -- but if you do -- I need to tell you your books are keeping me alive. I have read your work since you began writing. I am a writer myself, and have a double masters in writing. I have published a few things, been nominated for a Pushcart Prize for a short story I wrote -- nominated by Wally Lamb. Your book, The Dovekeepers, is a major step up! You have, indeed, written a masterpiece. I am a teacher by day, and my principal calls me a "literary snob" So be it. Your books teach women to be strong, how to survive, how to love, even after devastating loss. I have not been able to pick up another book -- yet -- since finishing The Dovekeepers. I just ordered The Ice Queen. Thank you. Thank you for your great devotion to words, and to keep pushing yourself forward in language and depth. Your words resonate far beyond our written language. Sincerely, Victoria Smith

I have been to Masada several times as a college student - walking up both the Roman ramp and the snake path. I remember seeing the mosaic tiles of the bathhouse, the remains of the synagogue, etc. However, at the time, it was just more ruins to visit. I don't remember it having any significant meaning to me. I just finished reading The Dovekeepers. Your book brought memories of Masada back to me that I didn't even know I had! The language was so vivid, the characters so real. I could see the ramp the Romans were building and feel the winds blowing over the mountain. After reading this, I know I'll be taking a trip back to Israel and visiting Masada again - this time with an entirely new perspective! Thank you for such a soul touching book!

Does anyone know if The Dovekeepers will be translated into Hebrew? I want to give this wonderful book to my Israeli mother. Considering the context, it would be quite fitting to be translated into Hebrew. Wouldn't you agree?

Undoubtedly a tremendously gifted writer, Alice Hoffman with the dovekeepers has touched me so deeply as a woman and a scientist and inspired me as a painter. I wish I could have presented her the paintings of “Flaming Red Hair,Innocence and Beauty Reigning the Desert “ and “Reigning the Desert While Embracing New Life with Flaming Red Hair, Determination, Beauty and Grace.” describing Yael as my heart has perceived her from Hoffman`s so talented and capturing character building and descriptions. The latter can be viewed on my website should she wishes. The Dovekeepers is certainly one of the best books to be read! Dr. Dorit Amikam Molecular Oncologist Artist .
